Development & Marketing Associate

The Development and Marketing Associate will support the Melanoma Research Foundation’s (MRF) Development and Communications Departments. He or she will manage and steward the MRF’s CommUNITY Fundraising program (DIY) for donors interested in hosting their own events to benefit the MRF. He or she will work closely with the Communications Officer to draft marketing and development communications for the MRF’s yearly fundraising drives (#GivingTuesday, Melanoma Awareness Month, end of year giving) and events (Wings of Hope galas and Miles for Melanoma 5K run/walks). In addition, he or she will launch and manage the MRF’s e-commerce program. 

Core Responsibilities:

Fundraising (50%)

  • Manage and grow the CommUNITY Fundraising (DIY) program
  • Develop lasting relationships with volunteer fundraisers
  • Provide onboarding materials to new fundraisers and provide ongoing support to existing/reoccurring fundraisers
  • Track donations from all CommUNITY Fundraising events and follow up with payments after each event, as needed
  • Manage everydayhero fundraising platform for CommUNITY Fundraising, TeamMelanoma, and CURE OM programs.
  • Create new everydayhero campaigns as needed
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with cause marketing partners
  • Secure financial support from new cause marketing partners
  • Manage the Shop for Good page on the MRF website
Marketing (50%)
  • Create and manage email schedule for all fundraising and event emails
  • Work with graphic design team to develop marketing materials for Wings of Hope galas
  • Draft and send event email blasts for Wings of Hope galas
  • Draft and send email blasts for Miles for Melanoma 5k run/walks
  • Assist communications and development departments with campaigns related to Melanoma Awareness Month, #GivingTuesday and year-end giving
  • Assist with other fundraising and awareness campaigns as needed
  • Set up and manage the MRF online store
  • Coordinate merchandise ordering and tracking
  • Create a marketing plan for merchandise
Key Qualifications:
  • 2-3 years of experience in a non-profit development or communications/marketing department
  • Experience using donor database systems such as Raiser’s Edge strongly preferred
  • Experience using Luminate, Team Raiser and everydayhero strongly preferred
  • Experience with CSS or HTML preferred
  • Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Team-oriented, able to communicate and work with cross-departmental teams
  • Detail-oriented
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrates flexibility to changing situations and ability to balance competing demands and priorities
  • Demonstrates ability to professionally represent the MRF and exhibits familiarity with development best practices and techniques
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn and a desire to grow and expand one’s knowledge

Development Officer

The Development Officer is a strategic and accomplished fundraiser with experience in peer-to-peer fundraising events. He/she is able to communicate and work seamlessly with Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) constituents, donors, sponsors, vendors and MRF staff. The Development Officer will raise funds for the Miles for Melanoma program through solicitation of local sponsors, team captains and participants. S/he will also work closely with the Director of Corporate Relations to develop a robust sponsorship package and benefits. S/he will assist the CEO in setting the strategy for the program communications, aligning Miles for Melanoma with other MRF programs and priorities and setting and maintaining a revenue and expense budget. The Officer will report directly to the CEO but work with multiple members of the MRF staff including but not limited to: the Logistics Coordinator, Director of Corporate Relations, Communications team and the board. The Development Officer will contribute to the MRF’s organizational effectiveness by meeting ambitious fundraising goals, building a pipeline of donors through the national race series and helping to promote the MRF’s message and brand nationally.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Raise $1MM+ through identification, cultivation and solicitation of local sponsors and team captains
  • Identify co-chairs and committee members to sit on local race planning committees
  • Collaborate with the Director of Corporate Relations on national sponsor solicitation
  • Create and manage a revenue and expense budget as approved by the CEO
  • Work with the Logistics Coordinator to ensure effective and timely planning and execution of all Miles for Melanoma races
  • Provide feedback for a larger Miles for Melanoma communications calendar specifically focused on fundraising with the MRF’s communications team
  • Collaborate with departmental teams to ensure consistency amongst all of the races
  • Host committee meetings and one-on-one meetings with race co-chairs

Key Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of fundraising experience; large scale event management background a plus
  • Experience soliciting 4+ figure gifts
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Ability to travel extensively

Development Intern

The Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) is seeking a Development Intern to support the Development department. This position would support all aspects of the MRF’s fundraising efforts, including the individual and corporate giving programs, Miles for Melanoma 5K program and Wings of Hope for Melanoma gala program.
This position offers exposure to the full scope of fundraising activities in a fast-paced and rapidly growing national non-profit. The Development Intern will work closely with the Development Coordinator on projects and events. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in the non-profit healthcare sector and a passion for helping others.
Core Responsibilities:
General Development Support
  • Coordinate all Year-end mailings to donors
  • Work on special projects related to donor database maintenance
  • Process expense reports
  • Provide proof-reading and editing support for development publications
  • Work on special projects as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned
Special Events
  • Assist the Development Coordinator with event invitations, logistics, marketing, day-of duties and post-event follow up related to the Wings of Hope for Melanoma gala program
  • Assist the development team with special proposals related to the Miles for Melanoma 5K Walk/Run program
