Development Officer

The Development Officer is a strategic and accomplished fundraiser with experience in peer-to-peer fundraising events. He/she is able to communicate and work seamlessly with Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) constituents, donors, sponsors, vendors and MRF staff. The Development Officer will raise funds for the Miles for Melanoma program through solicitation of local sponsors, team captains and participants. S/he will also work closely with the Director of Corporate Relations to develop a robust sponsorship package and benefits. S/he will assist the CEO in setting the strategy for the program communications, aligning Miles for Melanoma with other MRF programs and priorities and setting and maintaining a revenue and expense budget. The Officer will report directly to the CEO but work with multiple members of the MRF staff including but not limited to: the Logistics Coordinator, Director of Corporate Relations, Communications team and the board. The Development Officer will contribute to the MRF’s organizational effectiveness by meeting ambitious fundraising goals, building a pipeline of donors through the national race series and helping to promote the MRF’s message and brand nationally.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Raise $1MM+ through identification, cultivation and solicitation of local sponsors and team captains
  • Identify co-chairs and committee members to sit on local race planning committees
  • Collaborate with the Director of Corporate Relations on national sponsor solicitation
  • Create and manage a revenue and expense budget as approved by the CEO
  • Work with the Logistics Coordinator to ensure effective and timely planning and execution of all Miles for Melanoma races
  • Provide feedback for a larger Miles for Melanoma communications calendar specifically focused on fundraising with the MRF’s communications team
  • Collaborate with departmental teams to ensure consistency amongst all of the races
  • Host committee meetings and one-on-one meetings with race co-chairs

Key Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of fundraising experience; large scale event management background a plus
  • Experience soliciting 4+ figure gifts
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Ability to travel extensively

Development Intern

The Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) is seeking a Development Intern to support the Development department. This position would support all aspects of the MRF’s fundraising efforts, including the individual and corporate giving programs, Miles for Melanoma 5K program and Wings of Hope for Melanoma gala program.
 
This position offers exposure to the full scope of fundraising activities in a fast-paced and rapidly growing national non-profit. The Development Intern will work closely with the Development Coordinator on projects and events. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in the non-profit healthcare sector and a passion for helping others.
 
Core Responsibilities:
General Development Support
  • Coordinate all Year-end mailings to donors
  • Work on special projects related to donor database maintenance
  • Process expense reports
  • Provide proof-reading and editing support for development publications
  • Work on special projects as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned
Special Events
  • Assist the Development Coordinator with event invitations, logistics, marketing, day-of duties and post-event follow up related to the Wings of Hope for Melanoma gala program
  • Assist the development team with special proposals related to the Miles for Melanoma 5K Walk/Run program
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Education and Experience
  • Undergraduate Student
